The Higher School of Computer Science at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) on the Ciudad Real campus will hold the Twelfth International Conference on the Quality of Information and Communication Technologies (QUATIC 2019). In its twelfth edition-this forum will be held in Spain for the first time. 70 researchers from 19 countries will participate and discuss progress made in the sector.

Around 70 researchers from 19 different countries have been booked from today and up to next Friday, 13th of September, at the Higher School of Computer Science on the Ciudad Real Campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), for the Twelfth International Conference on the Quality of Information and Communication Technologies (QUATIC 2019), a forum which will provide a platform for discussing the latest progress made in methods and tools for quality management and engineering in information and communication technologies (ITC).

At its inauguration, Mario Piattini, the head of the Area of Languages and Computer Systems at the UCLM who is also co-chairperson of the committee for the forum programme, explained that this is the first time the conference has been held in Spain and that he is "proud" that the Higher School of Computer Science in Ciudad Real has been chosen to host it.

Professor Piattini said that among the topics the researchers will work on at the conference, of special note is how to bring together quality requirements, how to apply artificial intelligence techniques to improve the quality of software or how to speed up the process and productivity when developing information systems. Likewise, he said that there will be three "star" conferences which will include a review of 50 years of Software Engineering and how quality has improved over this time, developing safe and high-quality self-driving cars, and tackling quality when faced with uncertainty.

Apart from the researchers, there will also be industrial professionals at the forum. Some of them have been booked for the second conference day, "Industrial Day" in which representatives of companies from both within and outside the region will participate, and in which activities aimed at the software industry and its role in ITC quality will be carried out.

In short, according to that stated by the professor of the Higher School of Computer Science, and one of the chairpersons of the organizing committee, Ignacio García Rodríguez de Guzmán, it is an "important" conference for a "region such as ours, which has an industrial fabric in the field of ITC that is growing continuously from strength to strength".

Together with the organizers, at the inauguration of the congress, the director of the Higher School of Computer Science, Eduardo Fernández-Medina stated that this activity "is very well aligned" with the philosophy of the centre and the university for promoting internationalization as much as possible, with the most important international researchers within the field of computer science quality participating here.

Likewise, the conference has been supported by the mayor of Ciudad Real, Pilar Zamora, who said it was a pleasure for her that for three days the Castilla-la Mancha capital will be the focal point for ITC.
