The UCLM wins competition for technology-based companies

04/04/2017

Spain, which was represented by the Research Group Ingenium at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), wins the international stage 'Entrepreneurship 5 + 5', as revealed during the Third Ministerial Conference, which focused on research, innovation, and higher education held in Tunis.

Ingenium Research Group, at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), wins the international phase of the Entrepreneurship 5 + 5 initiative. This project aims to encourage the implementation of technology-based companies which originate in the field of public universities in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia.

This result was revealed during the Third Ministerial Conference on research, innovation and higher education held in Tunis and it emphasises the value of the www.ingeniumgroup.eu project, represented by Fausto Pedro Garcia Marquez and Carlos Quiterio Gómez Muñoz . This project stems from the need to offer the renewable energy industry a solution to increase productivity and reliability, based on new monitoring systems and non-destructive analysis. Thus, the quality and viability of the business plan, international strategy, innovative potential, competitive advantages, the degree of development and experience of the team, have been some of the factors taken into consideration.

These new monitoring systems employ sensors based on non-destructive testing, such as ultrasonic and infrared technology. They do not affect the system, and its properties remain constant after the measurement tasks. Additionally, this information can be analysed and managed online. Hence, new systems proposed have a lower cost and weight that allow the incorporation in UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), thereby increasing the efficiency of operations, especially in remote areas.

This project also presents the way mass data collected in the industry of renewable energy are transformed into useful information by means of robust mathematical models, and are consistent with the actions needed to maximize uptime, productivity, and the industrial systems' efficiency . Not surprisingly, Big Data is one of the central and influential innovation challenges, according to Horizon 2020.

Likewise, this research group at UCLM proposes in its work a financial analysis of the investment, according to new indicators of importance. This is a strong innovation created to carry out the optimal investment policies, taking into account exogenous variables, such as permits, human resources or assets, market opportunities ...

In this Third Conference, co-chaired by Carmen Vela, Spanish Secretary of State for Science also agreed to share scientific and technological infrastructures in order to facilitate access to these researchers and technicians from the ten participating countries. Spain has made available three infrastructures; the Barcelona Supercomputing Center—National Supercomputing Center (BSC), the ALBA Synchrotron, and the National Center of Microelectronics.

Ingenium Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group formed by nine members of the UCLM, in addition to other external ones in Spain, UK, and Italy. In fact, the group has wide experience in national and international projects. Our mission is to contribute to the improvement of social welfare by conducting company oriented projects in the fields of engineering, business administration, and economics, as well as the pursuit of research excellence.
