Prof. Félix Jalón was born in Logroño (La Rioja) in 1958. He, together with Prof. Blanca Manzano, are the leaders of the group. He got the PhD degree at the University of Alcalá de Henares in the field of niobium organometallic chemistry. He made a postdoctoral stay in the “Laboratoire de Chimie de la Coordination-CNRS” de Toulouse, in the group of Prof. Bruno Chaudret, in the field of non-classical hydrides of Ru. Lately, after his incorporation at the UCLM, he has continued working in the study of the application of complexes of the late transition metals. Nowadays he develops projects in relation with homogeneous catalysis and the design of anticancer metal complexes in phototherapy.

Prof. Blanca Manzano was born in Soria (Spain). She is together with Prf. Félix Jalón the leader of the group at the UCLM. She got the PhD degree at the Zaragoza University in the field of organometallic chemistry of Au(I) and Ag(I). After that, he made a postdoctoral stay in the group of Homogeneous Catalysis of Prof. Tkatchenko at the LCC-CNRS of Toulouse complemented with stays in the group of Prof. L. Oro at the University of Zaragoza and Bruno Chaudret at LCC-CNRS of Toulouse. She has experience in the synthesis and characterization of Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag and Ru complexes and in the applications of these complexes as catalytic precursors. She is expert in the study of fluxional processes of molecular systems and of non-covalent interactions in supramolecular networks. Nowadays, she is involved in projects in the field of applications of transition meal complexes in chemotherapy and photo-chemotherapy (PDT and PACT).

Gema Durá was born in Alicante, Spain. She received her BSc (2008) from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and DEA (2010) from the University of Zaragoza. She obtained her European Ph.D. in 2014 under the supervision of Profs Felix Jalon and M. Carmen Carrion at UCLM, with a FPU studentship, working on the supramolecular chemistry and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOF) formed by N-donor ligands and transition metals with potential in gas storage. In 2011, she spent 3 months working on MOF in Shröder´s group in Nottingham. In 2014 she won a postdoctoral fellowship (JCCM) to join the group of Michael North in GCCE at the University of York, working with carbonaceous materials as CO₂ capture agents. In 2015, Gema joined as postdoctoral researcher at Newcastle University working with David Fulton in Chemical Nanoscience group. She developed new biomaterials based on polymeric proteins for application in material science and medicine. In 2020, she returned to UCLM as a researcher with an “Atracción del Talento” program (JCCM). She is currently developing new drugs and nanocarriers for phototherapy to improve the selectivity and decreasing the side effects of current treatments and new hydrogels for tissue engineering and material science. 

Dr. Ana Rodríguez was born in Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real). She got the PhD degree at the UCLM in the field of organometallic Ru derivatives with N-donor ligands with Prof. Jalón as one of the Directors. After that, she performed a postdoctoral stay in the group of Prof. Chaudret working in metallic colloids. She also made another postdoctoral stay with Prof. Martín Martínez Ripoll that allowed her to learn the technique of X-Ray diffraction. Her task in the interest fields of the group is mainly centred in the determination of structures by X-ray diffraction of the new compounds and materials prepared and crystallized. Considering the supramolecular level that it is intended to get our objectives, it is essential her participation what concerns the determination of the crystalline structures in solid state.

Dr. Lucía Santos Peinado got her PhD degree at the Complutense University of Madrid in Physical Chemistry in the field of nitroimidazoles and chemical radiosensitizers. After that she made postdoctoral stays at the university of the País Vasco, the University of Cambridge and at the Laboratory of Molecular Photophysics of CNRS-Paris-Sud (Orsay-Francia) acquiring a wide experience in molecular spectroscopy. She has also made stays at the University of Barcelona with the group of Prof. J.M. Lluch learning Computational Chemistry. She has got four six-year periods of research positivity evaluated.

She has already worked in the group mainly in the field of theoretical calculations applied to processes of proton transfer. Dr. Lucia Santos has experience in the field of DFT calculations of metal complexes, in studies concerning the photophysic properties of the systems and also in analysis of interactions of the complexes with biological targets and in calculations of reaction mechanisms. She has experience in the field of molecular spectroscopy and anticancer drugs.

Carlos Gonzalo Navarro was born in Pinto (Madrid) in 1998. He got his degree in Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in 2020. He got his final project degree in the group of Dr. Joaquín Pérez-Pariente and Dr. Javier Agúndez at the Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica of Madrid (ICP-CSIC) in the field of photocatalysis with gold nanoparticles and nanoclusters immobilized on ordered mesoporous silica. He obtained his master’s degree at Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in 2021. During this period, he worked in the group of Prof. Félix Jalón, Prof. Blanca Manzano and Dr. Gema Durá in the field of new half-sandwich Ir(III) complexes as promising candidates for photochemotherapy. Currently, he is a second-year PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Félix Jalón and Dr. Gema Durá. His work is mainly focused on the synthesis of new half-sandwich complexes with potential application as photocatalysts and PDT (photodynamic therapy) agents and their encapsulation in new nanogels for controlled drug delivery.

Antonio J. Troyano Sáez was born in Ciudad Real, Spain. He got his degree in Chemistry at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in 2021. He has been collaborating for more than a year with the “Grupo de Química de la Coordinación Aplicada” (QuiCAP) at UCLM. In the first place, as an undergraduate student (2020) and currently as a Master´s degree student (2021). His work, under the supervision of Professor Félix Jalón and Dr. Gema Durá, consists of the development of new ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes for photoactivated chemotherapy, along with the study and preparation of new drug release platforms, aiming to reduce side effects of cancer treatments. He also received a collaborative research fellowship (IRICA) as an undergraduate student in 2021. Currently, he is still collaborating with QuiCAP group at UCLM.
