Gustavo Espino
Gustavo Espino

Dr. Gustavo Espino was born in Burgos in 1970. Nowadays he is Permanent Teacher (Profesor Titular) in the University of Burgos (UBU). He has been actively participating in the development of the researching projects of the group from its foundation. In 2003 he got his PhD degree centred mainly in the organometallic chemistry of Ru and Pd and the study of their catalytic applications. He has made a postdoctoral stay at the University of Oxford with Prof. John Brown where he has studied the mechanism of the Suzuki reactions and other similar processes. Currently, he is working in the design and development of new Ru(II) and Ir(III) organometallic complexes with potential application as photocatalysts and PDT (photodynamic therapy) agents. He is co-author of near 50 scientific publications and two patents.

Arancha Carbayo
Arancha Carbayo

Dr. Arancha Carbayo Martín was born in Burgos in 1971. Now a days she is Contratado Doctor in the University of Burgos (UBU). Since 1995, she has actively participated in numerous research projects focused on the synthesis of complexes of platinum group metals and the study of their properties and reactivity.

In 2001 she obtained his doctorate degree based on the synthesis and the study of palladium amidocomplexes.

She has made a predoctoral stay at the University of Rennes with Professor Pierre Dixneuf where she has studied the functionalization of α-methylenic cyclic carbonates by the Heck reaction. Also, she has made a predoctoral stay at the Department of the Oxide Synthesis and Structures of the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (CSIC) with Professor Enrique Gutiérrez Puebla, centered in the resolution of crystal structures by X-ray diffraction.

She has participated as a collaborating researcher in 18 scientific projects at a local, regional, national and European level and she has co-directed 12 Master's Final Project and Final Degree Project. She is co-author of 20 scientific publications and one patent.

Currently, his work is mainly focused on the preparation of new Ru(II) and Ir(III) organometallic complexes with potential application as photocatalysts and cytotoxic agents.

Marta Martínez
Marta Mrtinez

Marta Martínez Alonso finalizó su tesis doctoral, titulada “Synthesis and characterization of Ru(II), Rh(III) and Ir(III) complexes bearing arylazole ligands.

Juan Sanz

Juan Sanz Villafruela was born in Burgos in 1996. Nowadays he is PhD student in the University of Burgos (UBU) under the supervision of Prof. Gustavo Espino and Prof. Aranzazu Heras. In 2018 he got his degree in Chemistry and in 2020 his master´s degree in Advanced Chemistry. During both years, he studied the synthesis of new Ir(III) complexes and their potential use as photosentizers in PDT (Photo-Dynamic Therapy) and in Photocatalysis. In 2020 he also achieved a 4 year fellowship from the University of Burgos to study his PhD. During this period, he has made a predoctoral stay of 2 months at the University of Castilla la Mancha with Prof. Félix Jalón and Prof. Blanca Manzano where he studied the synthesis of new di-imine ligands . Currently, he keep on working in the design and synthesis of new Ru(II) and Ir(III) organometallic complexes with potential application as photocatalysts and PDT.
