The UCLM remains as one of the best universities in the world according to the 'ranking' ''THE'

12/09/2017

The 'THE' ranking places the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the best universities in the world (range 801-1000) for the third year in a row. With respect to the previous year, the regional university improves in 'training' and 'internationalization', but it goes back in the fields of 'research' and 'innovation'

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) remains for the third consecutive year among the best universities in the world, according to the 'THE' (World University Rankings, Times Higher Education) ranking, along with 29 of the 75 Spanish universities, and integrated in the range of positions 801 -1,000. This classification, at a global scale, only includes the 1,000 best universities out of more than 24,000 institutions of Higher Education around the world.

Concerning the previous year, the Regional University improves in aspects related to 'training' and 'internationalization', while, on the contrary, it goes backwards in the areas that are responsible for 'research' and 'innovation'.

The 'THE' ranking is characterized by providing a comprehensive view of much of the university's activities. For that purpose, it uses validated information coming from universities, academics, and publishers to determine the score corresponding to thirteen indicators.

For the third time, the bibliometric information corresponding to scientific publications has been provided by the ELSEVIER publishing editor through the SCOPUS database. Furthermore, they also received 10,568 surveys of academics from around the world to develop information related to the reputation of universities. However, for the first time in this edition, the process of preparing this classification has been subjected to an external audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PxC).

As a result, 29 Spanish universities—one private—were selected out of the 75 of Spain, joining two of them with respect to the last edition. Nevertheless, the Spanish university institutions lost on average 45 positions despite having better scores; which explains the progress of other countries with regard to Spain

The 'THE' is considered to be one of the four most prestigious university rankings in the world in the selection and classification of universities, together with the Asian ARWU, also the British QS, or the American US NEWS. It is worth mentioning that since last August, the UCLM has been included in the ranking of Shangái (ARWU), thus being in these four prestigious classifications.
