Principal Investigator
Mario Gutierrez Dr. Mario Gutiérrez Tovar earned his BS and MS degrees from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM, Spain) in 2012 and 2014, respectively. He completed his PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Abderrazzak Douhal (Femtoscience and Microscopy Group, UCLM). In 2019, he joined the Multifunctional Materials and Composites Lab (MMC Lab, Department of Engineering Science) at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, under the direction of Prof. Jin-Chong Tan. In 2021, Dr. Gutiérrez Tovar returned to the Femtoscience and Microscopy Group (Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Biochemistry, Toledo, UCLM) as an Assistant Professor. At the beginning of 2024, he secured a permanent position as an Associate Professor. In 2024, he was awarded the ERC Starting Grant (StG) for the HyperFMOF project, receiving funding of €1,614,000.

Paulino

Dr. Paulino Duel de Juan earned his BS degree in Chemistry in 2015 and his MS degree in Chemistry Science and Technology in 2016 from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB, Spain). In 2022, he completed his PhD in Chemistry Science and Technology under the supervision of Dr. Jeroni Morey and Dra. Mª de las Nieves Piña at the research group SUPRAMOL (Supramolecular Chemistry Group, UIB). In 2023, he joined the Nanostructured Functional Materials Group at Catalonian Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute (ICN2, Spain) as a Postdoctoral Researcher, under the direction of Prof. Daniel Ruiz. In 2025, Dr. Duel de Juan enrolled to the Femtoscience and Microscopy Group (Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Biochemistry, Toledo, UCLM) as a Postdoctoral Researcher associated to the ERC Starting Grant (StG) HyperFMOF project.

Dr. Ahmad Sousaraei completed his MSc degree at the University of Zanjan in Iran. In January 2017, he joined the group of Dr. Juan Cabanillas-Gonzales at IMDEA Nanociencia in Madrid, Spain, and earned his PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) in November 2020. In 2021, he began a postdoctoral position at UAM under the supervision of Dr. Ana E. Platero-Prats.

In 2022, Dr. Sousaraei was awarded the Margarita Salas postdoctoral fellowship (€121,000; 2+1 years), through which he joined the Department of Chemistry at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (ENS-PSL), working under the direction of Prof. Christian Serre and Dr. Antoine Tissot.

In October 2025, he was appointed as a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at ICMM-CSIC in Madrid. In parallel, he received another prestigious postdoctoral fellowship funded by INNOCAM and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), and joined the group of Dr. Mario Gutiérrez Tovar at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Toledo.

Miss Laura Gamarra completed her BS degree in Chemistry in 2023 and her MS degree in Organic Chemistry in 2024 from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM, Spain). After that, she completed a year as internship in Organic & Medicial Chemistry in Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. In 2025, Laura Gamarra enrolled to the Femtoscience and Microscopy Group (Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Biochemistry, Toledo, UCLM) as a Predoctoral Researcher associated to the ERC Starting Grant (StG) HyperFMOF project.
