PhD Position in Time-Resolved Spectroscopy and OLED Fabrication

Project Association: ERC StG HyperFMOF (ref. 101163095)
Start Date (Duration): January 2026 (4 years) 

We are pleased to invite applications for a fully funded PhD position to join the ERC Starting Grant HyperFMOF project (ref. 101163095), hosted at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Toledo, Spain.

The HyperFMOF project focuses on the development and comprehensive characterization of novel hyperfluorescent materials based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), aiming to integrate them into MOF-based light-emitting diodes (MOF-LEDs). This PhD position will specifically address advanced spectroscopic characterization of photophysical processes and the fabrication and performance testing of LED devices.

Candidate Profile:

  • Applicants must hold (or be near completion of) a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanoscience, or a closely related field.
  • Strong interest in spectroscopy, optoelectronics, and device fabrication is essential.
  • Prior experience with photoluminescence spectroscopy, time-resolved techniques, or electroluminescent device assembly will be highly valued.
  • Good level of English (both written and spoken).
  • Strong motivation to pursue a PhD, teamwork skills, and scientific curiosity are expected.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic measurements to characterize MOFs and related hybrid materials.
  • Participate in the fabrication and testing of MOF-LED prototypes.
  • Collaborate with synthetic chemists and computational scientists to correlate structure–property–performance relationships.
  • Analyze and interpret spectroscopic and device performance data.
  • Present results at internal meetings, international conferences, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

Postdoc Position in Time-Resolved Spectroscopy and OLED Fabrication

Start Date (Duration): January 2026 (1 year with the possibility of extension)

Requirements:

  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree in chemistry, physics, or similar by the start date.
  • Strong background in time-resolved spectroscopy and/or OLED fabrication/characterization with a track record of publication in high impact journals is required.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in the time-resolved spectroscopy characterization of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) or in OLED fabrication.
  • A high level of proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to write scientific articles and present research findings at conferences.
  • Strong teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to contribute innovative ideas to the project.
  • The ability to mentor graduate students is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the use and maintenance of the photonics labs.
  • Contributing to the time-resolved spectroscopic characterization of compounds relevant to the HyperFMOF project.
  • Writing and publishing scientific papers in high-impact journals.
  • Presenting research findings at international conferences.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members to achieve project objectives.
