The Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Ciudad Real participated in the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, IROS 2018, held in Madrid between the 1st to 5th of October. Organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) from the United States and the Japan Robotics Society (JRS) under the slogan "Towards a robotic society", it has been estimated that in this edition the event has gathered eighty per cent of the world experts in this field.

What is more, among these experts, was a delegation from the Ciudad Real school of Industrial Engineering which made the most of the meeting to present two of the European projects which the centre is working on: BONSEYES: Platform for Open Development of Systems of Artificial Intelligence and Eyes of Things. The first, financed by the European Union with five million euros, aims to develop a software to enable built-in intelligent systems based on automatic learning to be developed and displayed. Moreover, the Eyes of Things initiative, coordinated by the VISILAB group from the School and which has received total funding of 3.7 million euros, has developed an artificial vision platform that is reduced in size and which is highly efficient. This vision system, with direct applications in mobile robotics, video surveillance, etc, received the highest mark in the final project review made in Brussels on the 30th of August.

In a similar fashion, professors from the school presented two scientific articles on controlling the movement of large dimension robots and on the design of robotic structures, respectively. These articles reflect the research activity on the first level in robotics developed at this UCLM centre. What is also shown is that its director, professor Vicente Feliu, has been part of the National Advisory Board of the Conference.
