The UCLM joins International Day of Women in Science to support the role this group plays in scientific activity

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) will actively participate in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which will be commemorated on the 11th Of February, with a programme which includes a series of conferences by female scientists between the 2nd and 14th of February and a videoconference link with the Gabriel de Castilla antartic base. The UCLM will extend this campaign to highlight women in science with the project "Twelve months, twelve researchers".

The United Nations(UN) proclaimed in a 2015 resolution, to set the 11th of February as International Day of Women and Girls in Science in order to recognize the "key role females have played in the scientific community and technology". The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) shares this demand and has joined the commemoration with a programme of activities which include a series of conferences by important female Spanish scientists and technologists and which will be held between the 2nd and 15th of February on the Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo campuses and at the university sites at Talavera de la Reina and Almaden. Among the speakers is the chairwoman of the Women and Science Committee of the Spanish Natioanl Research Council (CSIS), Pilar Lopez Sancho, who , on the 14th of February will give a speech in Cuenca on women and science in the XXI century.

The UCLM has also programmed a video conference connection for the 8th of February on the Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo campuses with the Gabriel de Castilla antartic base to hear the report of captain Pilar Lisbona, veterinary science and environmental expert and the only woman participating in this campaign on the frozen continent.

Moreover and new this year, the University of Castilla-La Mancha will extend the goals of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with the project "Twelve months, twelve researchers", a programme of conferences aimed at highlighting the work carried out by women dedicated to research not just in science, technology, engineering and mathematics but in the remaining fields of knowledge. The opening speech will be in March in Cuenca with the research director for Scientific Data for Vodaphone, Nuria Oliver, Telecommunications engineer and doctor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Women and Science Photography contest
In the same vein, the Vice-chancellor´s office for Culture, Sport and University Extension has called the second edition of the Women and Science Photography Contest, for students enrolled at the regional university this academic year.
