For the first time The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has been incorporated into the ‘Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2017’. It recognises the top 200 institutions in the world that are younger than 50 years old. Of the 75 that make up the Spanish University System, only 15 Spanish universities have been included in the sixth edition of this ranking.

‘Times Higher Education’ (THE), which devises one of the most prestigious and influential university rankings in the world, has published the ‘Young University Rankings 2017’ edition, which has elected the first 200 institutions in the world that are younger than 50 years old. Within the Spanish University System, 58 universities meet this age requirement.

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), with only 32 years of existence has been included, for the first time, in the top 200 universities in the world. Ranking between 151-200, the ranking takes into consideration the categories of teaching (learning environments), research (sheer volume and reputation), impact of references (based on the publications of an institution that are referenced by other academics), internationalisation, and transfer of knowledge and innovation.

In this respect, subsequent to finding out the news, Miguel Ángel Collado, the dean of UCLM, highlighted that “the inclusion of our regional university in this international classification recognises the quality of the academic institution that we have created and that we create everyday with the effort and eagerness of all members of the university community.”

In 2015 the UCLM was selected to be included in the general ‘THE’ ranking of the best universities in the world; in fact, it has now been added to the youngest universities classification edition. Having been selected to be integrated into the Shanghai Engineering Ranking which was created by the Asian continent, it has only been a few months since the UCLM was also included in the main ranking of universities developed by US News (United States), and in other main European universities edited by QS (United Kingdom).
