Thirty-seven researchers from The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) are among the best in the world, according to the latest edition of the list drawn up by Jhon P. A. Ioannidis (University of Stanford, the United States) and his co-authors, who analysed scientific output and the times they had been cited, amongst other criteria. In the new list, the institution has moved up by adding six and five researchers respectively to each of the two subcategories: research programme and year 2020.
A total of 31 researchers from the UCLM are ranked at the cusp of the international system of science and technology in virtue of the list compiled by the University of Stanford and which has been published in the journal, PlosBiology. The work is based on the information contained in the Scopus database for evaluating scientists by the impact their citations have. As a whole, the contributions of the one hundred thousand researchers are shown from all fields of knowledge according to the index of citations, as well as other colleagues which are in the top 2% of scientists in their main discipline.
The study by Ioannidis and his coauthors was organised into two subcategories over two periods of time: one which gathers a list of researchers according to the impact their citations have throughout their entire research career up to the end of 2020. The other is limited to the analysis of the year 2020. In the first of these, which refers to the scientific career as whole, the UCLM has a total of 26 researchers while the second corresponding to 220 rises to 31.
Among the two categories , there are 37 researchers from the UCLM on whose list appear: Celia Álvarez-Bueno, Octavio Armas, José Manuel Arroyo, Luis Baringo, Miguel Ángel Caminero, Pablo Cañizares, Miguel Carrión, Iván Cavero-Redondo, Jesús Miguel Chacón, Javier Contreras, Antonio de Lucas, Abderrazzak Douhal, Vicente Feliu-Batlle, Antonio Fernández-Caballero, Fausto García Márquez, Lourdes Gómez-Gómez, Christian Gortázar, Isidro Hermosín, Juan José Hernández, Ricardo Insausti, Magín Lapuerta, Justo Lobato, Manuel Esteban Lucas-Borja, Rafael Luján, Vicente Martínez-Vizcaíno, Víctor Pérez-García, Mario Piattini, Ángel Ríos, Manuel Rodrigo, Gonzalo Ruiz, Francisco Ruiz-Pons, José Ruiz-Moreno, Cristina Sáez, Juan Carlos Sánchez-Hernández, Luz Sánchez-Silva, José Luis Valverde and Joaquín Vicente.
The latest update of the study Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators, otherwise known as the Stanford ranking, marks a step forward in the UCLM ranking, which in relation to the previous edition, adds six researchers to the career subcategory and 5 to that corresponding to the year 2020.
In the overall count, Spain is placed at number 13 according to the number of researchers on the list of degrees and takes eleventh place on the list corresponding to 2020.
