At “La Cristalera” Residence, Miraflores de la Sierra (Madrid)
On July 22 and 23, 2025, the “La Cristalera” Residence (Madrid) became the epicenter of scientific innovation with the celebration of the First NyNA Scientific Symposium, organized by the Chemical Sensors and Biosensors Group of the Autonomous University of Madrid and sponsored by the Consortium on Analytical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NyNA), the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and the company SGL – General Laboratory Supplies.
During two days of a truly inspiring scientific retreat, more than 35 research groups from the Consortium shared their advances in nanoscience, nanotechnology, and micro/nanoengineering, participating both in person and virtually. The meeting highlighted the interdisciplinary strength of the NyNA Consortium and its strong commitment to society through the development of innovative technologies focused on health, the environment, and food safety.
Cutting-edge science and an interdisciplinary vision
The scientific presentations covered topics ranging from the design of functional and hybrid nanomaterials to the application of exosomes, hydrogels, and nanochannels in advanced therapies and biosensors. Strategies based on lab-on-a-chip, micromotors, and microfluidics for the development of portable and multiplexed assays were also presented, as well as standardized methodologies for nanoparticle characterization and toxicity assessment. Once again, it became clear how technological innovation can converge with sustainability and scientific intelligence, fundamental pillars of the NyNA network.
Coordination Meeting and Upcoming Challenges
The Symposium also hosted the coordination meeting of the NyNA Consortium and Network, where key actions were discussed, such as updating the list of associated groups, participation in the COST Call, and the planning of upcoming events, including the NyNA 2026 Congress in Oviedo, proposals for the NyNA 2028 Congress, and the second editions of the NyNA Consortium and Symposium.
Science, Community, and Enthusiasm
Beyond the excellent and cutting-edge science shared, the Symposium stood out for its friendly, motivating, and collaborative atmosphere. The natural setting of La Cristalera provided a perfect backdrop for camaraderie and creativity, with leisure and fellowship activities ranging from a refreshing dip in the pool to a song contest, demonstrating that science can also be celebrated with joy and a sense of community.
The 1st NyNA Scientific Symposium closed its doors (only to make way for a well-deserved break) with the conviction that shared knowledge, collaboration, and commitment to society are the essential ingredients for continuing to drive a healthier, more sustainable, and smarter future.
See you at the next NyNA meeting!
