Energy and environment

From a socioeconomic perspective, the Vitoria Economic and Social Research Group has been developing this line of research in recent years with intense scientific dissemination in national and international top-level journals. Energy and the environment attract a large part of the attention of societies around the world when they are contemplated together. Not surprisingly, energy generation is among the most polluting productive sectors. The study of energy costs, environmental impact, replacement of energy sources, as well as the orientation and analysis of public policies, are among the objectives of this line of research. However, our studies are not isolated from the main variable that strengthens social progress: economic growth. Until proven otherwise, there can be no social progress without economic growth, so we assume that the great demand of societies in the last century is sustainable growth, which implies a trade-off or exchange between growth and the environment. In this line of research, and in collaboration with internationally renowned researchers, we have published our scientific papers in leading journals, such as Science of Total Environment, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy Economics, Environment Science and Pollution Research or Energy Policy, among others; all of them within the first quartile in their field of study.
