The program for the 2nd International Congress on Gender and Sexuality in Spanish Cinema: Contemporary Audiovisual Representations has now been published. The event will take place at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of Valencia on November 26, 27, and 28.
The director of MIDECIANT, Ana Navarrete, is part of the scientific committee. Rubén Serna, a collaborator of the museum, will take part on Thursday the 27th in Session 6 with the paper “Archival Materials: Cinema and Rural Imaginaries from Queer Standpoints.” María Sánchez Berenguer, a former member of our team, will also participate that same day in Session 7 with the paper “Cinema Measures: An Online Archive on Representations of Sexual Violence in Film and Television Series.”
This congress is conceived as an interdisciplinary forum for debate and analysis on the presence of new feminist agenda topics in today’s audiovisual landscape: the precarization of the labor market, the impact of neoliberalism, and the incorporation of intersectionality—which brings into focus the interrelation of gender inequality with discrimination based on age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, social background, functional diversity, refugee or migrant status, serological status, and more.
In this way, the congress aims to address issues generally absent from conventional narratives: new approaches to violence against women, gender and sexual diversity, body diversity, functional diversity, cultural diversities, and gender and ageism.
