General Information

The objective of this PhD Program (which has been awarded the Mention of Excellence MEE2011-0370 by the General Secretariat of Universities of the Ministry of Education (Resolution of October 6, 2011) is to complete the training of the PhD student in the area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, prioritized areas from all the national, European and international programs. The "molecular" orientation of this PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology makes it unique at national (and European) level. This orientation allows the development of those aspects of Nanoscience that are at the intersection between physics, chemistry and biomedicine, making it truly multidisciplinary. The professors of this PhD Program belong to the Organic Chemistry and Physic Chemistry of Toledo Campus, as are the professors from the rest of the participating universities.
Complementary training activities

The International Doctoral School (EID-UCLM) organizes cross-disciplinary training courses with the aim of offering the doctorate students’ complementary training activities to his or her activity as a researcher. Access and admision

Recommended entry profile

Students must have the Master's degree in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (/estudios/masteres/master-inter-nanociencia-nanotecnologia) or any other Master's degree related to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

  • Previous knowledge: It is recommended that the student have basic knowledge in the chemical, physical and biological aspects of nanoscience. Specifically, the student must know the chemical, physical and biological techniques most used in the preparation of nanomaterials and nanostructures, the study of these nanomaterials and nanostructures through microscopic techniques (electron and near-field microscopy, in particular) and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Language: The student must demonstrate a B2 level knowledge of English, which guarantees that they will be able to make the presentations of their research work in English at local or international meetings and conferences.

Additional entry profile

In case that the student has completed a Master's degree other than the Master's degree in  Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology but in a related area of knowledge, such as Chemistry, Physics or certain engineerings, the Doctoral Studies Academic Committee (CAD) may establish complementary courses which will be, in any case, subjects from the aforementioned Master's degree. Specifically, students will have to take a maximum of 20 credits of the following subjects:

  • M1. Introduction to the Master on Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: Basic concepts (6 ECTS).
  • M2. Fundamentals in nanoscience (4,5 ECTS).
  • M3. Physical characterisation techniques (4,5 ECTS).
  • M4. Physical nanofabrication techniques (3 ECTS).
  • M5. Basic concepts of supramolecular chemistry (3 ECTS).
  • M6. Molecular nanomaterials: preparation methods, properties and applications (6 ECTS).
  • M7. Use of supramolecular chemistry for the preparation of nanostructures and nanomaterials (3 ECTS).
  • M8. Molecular electronics (4,5 ECTS).
  • M9. Molecular nanomagnetism and spintronics (4,5 ECTS).

The aspects and merits to be assessed will be:

  • The grades obtained by the candidate in the undergraduate degree and Master's degree they have completed (60%).
  • The results derived from the Master's thesis (publications and conference papers) (25%).
  • Knowledge of English beyond the required level (10%).
  • Other merits of the candidate's CV related to research training (5%).

All the procedures will be carried out by the international doctoral school (EID-UCLM), except:

  • Registration and request for certifications and degrees: Student Management Unit of the student's Campus. 

  • Application for admission and thesis deposit: Secretary of the Department to which the student's tutor belongs.
