History of Economic Thought

  • Scholastic economic thought. Our main interest is focused on the concept of the “right price” where scholastics mix ethical and economic reflections. Today the “outstanding problem” in Economy is the assignation of scarce resources for different uses. In the 16th and 17th centuries, led by Spanish scholastic doctors, the main concern was centred on the individual’s responsibility in his interaction in the economic game. Today this responsibility seems to weaken in the suprapersonal rationality of the market. Reflecting on different anthropological and ethical beliefs which both paradigms uphold, represents, for us, a field of research which is a top priority.
  • Human behavior and economic institutions.  Anthropological and ethical reflection on human behavior which queries some of the beliefs of traditional microeconomics; which, also,  has a considerable bearing on institutional framework.

Rural Development

  • Endogenous rural development .. As a former office adviser in rural areas, I keep the interest in EU Rural policy from an academic point of view. The EU Funds has to face an important challenge: to show how effective these funds will be; hence the evaluation became a key-element in the rural policy.
