Official diplomas of Spanish as a foreign language (DELE) - Enrollment open for November exam (until October 12th)

DELE diplomas are official certificates issued by Spain's Instituto Cervantes and the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science for those people having passed an official exam that evaluates their level of Spanish. DELE is awarded for the 6 standard levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. Since autumn 2009, ESTO belongs to the network of DELE official exam centers in Spain.

Registration

Registration for the examinations should be applied for through an accredited Examination Centre (ESTO) within the dates established for each set of examinations. In order to register, candidates must provide the following documents:

  • A Registration Form available from Examination Centres or the Internet (Click here to download), properly completed.

  • Original and photocopy of an identification document with photograph showing the following details: identity, nationality, place and date of birth. The details presented by candidates on the registration form must be the same as those on the identification document. You have to take this ID document the day of the exam.

  • Documentation showing that the registration fee has been paid.

  • Signed declaration, where applicable, that they comply with at least two of the conditions described under Section 2 of the "General Conditions".

These documents need to be presented by one of the following means: ordinary post (Español en Toledo, Plaza de Padilla s/n, 45071 Toledo, Spain), fax ((+34) 925 26 57 61), scanned documents by e-mail ( esto@uclm.es ), or bringing them to our office.

Once registered, candidates will receive a stamped copy of the registration form showing the code they have been given and will be sent the official examination information by mail, with the place, date and time of the examination.

LEVELS OF SPANISH ACCORDING TO THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK (general orientation):

  • Diploma de Español Nivel A1 (Starter level): This qualification attests to sufficient linguistic ability for a very basic range of the most commonly simple expressions used in the Spanish-speaking world and in order to satisfy inmediate needs of a concrete type.

  • Diploma de Español Nivel A2 (Diploma de Español Nivel A2 (Waystage or Elementary level): This qualification attests to sufficient linguistic ability for understanding a basic range of the commonly simple and immediate relevance of expressions used in the Spanish-speaking world (basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).

  • Diploma de Español Nivel B1 (Inicial / Beginner level): This qualification attests to sufficient linguistic ability for understanding and responding appropriately in most normal day-to-day situations and for expressing desires and needs in a basic way.

  • Diploma de Español Nivel B2 (Intermedio / Intermediate level): This qualification validates sufficient linguistic ability to get by in average day-to-day situations in normal communication circumstances, which do not require specialized use of the language.

  • Diploma de Español Nivel C1 At this level, users are expected to be able to use the structures of a language with ease and fluency. Users are able to adapt their language use to a variety of social situations, and express opinions and take part in discussiones and arguments in a culturally acceptable way.

  • Diploma de Español Nivel C2 (Superior / Proficiency level): This qualification accredits the necessary linguistic competence to integrate in situations requiring an advanced use of the language and knowledge of the cultural customs embedded within it.
