Aula Virtual del Español. Cursos por Internet en colaboración con el Instituto
Cervantes.
ESTO offers students the
possibility of taking an online Spanish course, the Virtual Spanish
Classroom. A group of students might even take an e-learning course
through this system, with ESTO providing the tutor. What is this
system about?
The Spanish Virtual
Classroom of the Instituto Cervantes is a didactic environment which
offers Internet courses to learn Spanish online.

The students gets a card
with a user name and a password with which s/he can access the AVE
courses. The professors can monitor the students' progress, and
sometimes the course materials could be used by our professors in
ordinary lessons as a complement.
There are two ways to gain access to the courses:
1) Through the web site
http://ave.cervantes.es , clicking
on "direct access", and selecting your language. You will be asked
for your user name and password.
2) Through the web page
http://www.ave2.cvc.cervantes.es/.
(Macintosh users should try this option first).
In addition to the virtual
lessons, the tutor, who is a professor of Spanish, will follow and
monitor the group's progress. ESTO lends the students a headphone-microphone
set so that they can do all the multimedia exercises.
Virtual courses are
organized into four different levels, and each level into four sub-levels,
the easiest being A1, and the most difficult one D4. Each sub-level
is divided into units, and each units into thematic sub-units.

Technical requirements (important)
To access the AVE courses, the student needs to have some auxiliary
programs. Upon entering the course, the system will tell you if your
computer has the necessary programs. If not, you can download from
the Internet or a CD that will provide the center in which you
enroll. The system announces the steps required to successfully
complete the download.
Auxiliary programs occupy 25 Mb of disk space on your computer. If
done by digital connection, the download takes between 10 and 15
minutes. If done through a modem, the process takes two hours.
The computer equipment necessary to perform the online Spanish
