RULES OF CONDUCT ENFORCEABLE BY RESIDENTS.

Number - 1

In common areas, all residents must be properly dressed with shoes and street clothing.

Number - 2

All residents have the right to privace in their own room and are expected to respect the right of others’ privacy, especially that of a roommate.

Visitors may be received in one’s room, between 9 AM and 11 PM (9:00 – 23:00).
Visitors are not allowed to use the common areas of the residence, except with prior written permission from the residence director.

Number - 3

Every person living in the residence must be treated with due respect, and silence must be kept as much as possible. This silence rule must be meticulously observed between 11 PM and 8 AM (23:00 – 8:00).

The use of the leisure rooms is allowed as long as other people living in the residence are not disturbed, and noises are kept within acceptable levels (and at very low levels at night).

No parties are allowed, nor can one organize parties, except with the director’s permission.

Number - 4

Providing the entrance card / access code / key to the room to other people will be considered a very serious breach of residence rules.

Number - 5

All residents are solely responsible for their own actions. Trying to access the residence under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall be reported to the Director and controlled in serious cases. The residence cannot be liable for any incident that may arise because of this, so in serious cases emergency services might be contacted, without affecting any possible resident’s liabilities for his/her behavior.

Number - 6

Residents must take care of their rooms, including furniture and fixtures. They should collaborate with other fellow residents in the proper maintenance of the common areas of the residence, and should report any damage they may notice, so that it can be fixed by the maintenance service.

Number - 7

Materials belonging to the residence must be available to every resident. Items from the kitchens or common areas cannot be left in residents’ rooms. Once used, materials must be returned clean to their original place.

Number - 8

It is forbidden to eat and drink outside the kitchens / dining rooms or summer terrace.

Number - 9

Smoking is forbidden within all residence areas, except for the terrace and in private rooms.

Number - 10

Residents must (without affecting their right to privacy) give access to their rooms to the cleaning and maintenance staff, according to the Residence schedules made known at the beginning of every academic year. “Do not disturb” signs shall be respected only until 11 AM.

In the same way, residents must facilitate access to their rooms if the residence administration considers that a particular room must be inspected owing to maintenance or other reasons. In such cases, inspection shall be made by authorized personnel and in the presence of the resident or, if s/he refuses, in the presence of two other residents who will act as witnesses.

Number - 11

The use of electrical appliances (not belonging to the residence) for cooking is totally banned.

Number - 12

It is forbidden to do ironing outside the laundry facilities.

Residents’ failure to comply with these rules will lead to:

  1. Loss of status as resident. Any person evicted from the residence must leave within 24 hours starting from the moment the director’s notice is communicated.
  2. Loss of the right to a refund for the price paid.
  3. Any misconduct or crime itself that leads to a legal conviction will entail the resident’s immediate expulsion.

Any failure to comply with the residence rules can que qualified as slight, serious and very serious.

  1. a) The following situations shall be regarded as slight breaches of the rules:
    • Impoliteness or discourtesy toward other people visiting or living in the residence.
    • Carelessness in the upkeep of residence facilities and materials.
    • In general, any failure to comply with the rules owing to inexcusable carelessness
    • Any specific breach of the peace, as an individual or as a group.
  2. The following situations shall be regarded as serious breaches of the rules:
    • Lack of consideration and thoughtfulness toward other people visiting or living in the residence.
    • Not respecting the private property of fellow residents or staff. Using or keeping to oneself food, objects or any material belonging to the residence or to another resident.
    • Covering up a fellow resident’s breach.
    • Causing a breach of the peace or failing to keep silent in rooms and study areas.
    • Causing damage to the facilities or materials of the residence on purpose.
    • Recidivism in slight breaches of the rules, even if they are different in nature, when the resident has already been warned.
  3. The following situations shall be regarded as very serious breaches of the rules:
    • Insulting, threatening or attacking other people visiting or living at the residence.
    • Taking illegal drugs in the residence.
    • Organization of parties in any area of the Residence (see rule #3).
    • Transferring the room to any person not living in the residence, or giving him/her the entrance card / access code / key to the room.
    • Causing serious damage to the residence facilities or materials.
    • Recidivism in serious breaches of the rules, even if they are different in nature, within a six-month period, when the resident has already been sanctioned.

Sanctions that may be applied depending on the previous classification are:

  1. Owing to slight breaches of the rules:
    • Verbal or written warning.
  2. Owing to serious breaches of the rules:
    • The person sanctioned will lose his/her status of resident, with no right to a refund for the price paid, and will have to pay the repair costs when the amount is lower than 150 euros, for damages caused in facilities or material.
  3. Owing to very serious breaches of the rules:
    • The person sanctioned will be immediately expelled from the residence.
    • The person sanctioned shall be reported to the police if an alleged crime has been committed.
    • The person sanctioned will lose his/her status as resident, with no right to a refund and s/he will have to pay the repair costs, even if it exceeds 150 euros, for damage caused in residence facilities or materials. These repair costs will be directly paid to the company in charge of fixing the damage, and a copy of the invoice will be handed over to the residence secretary’s office.

Any breach of the residence rules, whether it is light or serious, shall be corrected by the Residence administration, by means of an audience with the interested party and communication to the management of the University of Castilla-La Mancha General Foundation.

Any breach of the residence rules qualified as very serious shall be corrected by the Residence director, with the previous opening of disciplinary procedures. These breaches will be reported to the Foundation’s Board, which will also be informed about the result of the disciplinary procedures.

The rules described above and the compliance with the duties established herein are applicable, in general, to all kind of residents, at any time of the year.
