The Escuela de Traductores de Toledo is a research centre pertaining to the University of Castilla-La Mancha, which commenced its activities in 1994 within the framework of the Patronato Universitario de Toledo and with the backing of the European Cultural Foundation.
As a space for training, its activities are centred on preparing translators of Arabic and Hebrew, imparting post-graduate education through the Course for Specialists in Arabic-Spanish Translation, as well as through Hebrew-Spanish Translation Seminars and, since 1999, offering courses on Introduction to the Arabic Language. In the area of research, the School organises and promotes various translation and research publications and programmes, developed in collaboration with institutions and professionals linked to the University of Castilla-La Mancha. Motivated by a firm resolve to make itself into a space for encounter and dialogue, the School has hosted and organised numerous national and international meetings and conferences in the area of translation and cultural relations between Europe and the Mediterranean .
The Escuela de Traductores de Toledo has a library-documentation centre specialised in matters related to the activities it carries out, and houses a specific documental fund on the history of the Toledo School of Translators in the Middle Ages.
The head offices are in the Palace of King Pedro , a Mudéjar building from the 14 th century located in the old part of the city, with an assembly room, multimedia room, meeting room and classrooms.
