Header of UCLM in the world

The University of Castilla-La Mancha has given preferential treatment to its international sphere as can be seen in the map of UCLM in the world. Even more, it has really taken it into account when channelling and establishing relations with other International Institutions of Higher Learning so as to drive forward different aid programmes for the mobility of students and teachers. To that end, an extensive network of international academic collaboration has been put together thanks to different exchange programmes with European Universities and those of the Americas. In this sense, and to achieve international distinction in its own right, over 300 collaboration agreements have been signed and sealed with institutions of higher learning on practically all the continents.

With the aim of drawing this reality up closer to the university community, the so-called ORI (International Relations Office) were opened. Their list of duties includes coordination tasks in all the international relations initiatives in the field of education and training which the University takes part in, besides centralizing initiatives arising on behalf of the university community for the establishment of relations by UCLM with other foreign institutions.

The range of educational opportunities for students wishing to complete their education abroad also includes firmly established programmes such as Erasmus studies and Erasmus Practices or Leonardo. Said programmes made the mobility of some 700 students and over 70 professors in the year 2009 alone possible. On the receiving end, UCLM offers its facilities and services to numerous foreign students. To improve the preparation in foreign languages of students carrying out a period of studies at some European university, UCLM teaches foreign language courses to prepare students for this special international experience. On the other hand, to help international students join university life in our region, UCLM conceived the Cicerone Programme. By means of a designated “cicerone”, the foreign student’s stay is facilitated, making it easier for him to adapt to and join in on the social life within and beyond the University. This programme has been very successful among local students, many of them ex-Erasmus, ex-bilaterals who want to offer the same that they enjoyed or missed on their exchange, a helping hand which offers them security and encouragement. Here, UCLM’s International Relations Offices play a crucial role in providing all the necessary information about courses, accommodation, procedures, etc.

UCLM also runs programmes such as that of Leonardo da Vinci enabling students to carry out internships in companies within the European Union, and still others which enable them to do a teacher’s assistantship at a University in Canada, the United States, Australia or New Zealand. In fact, this assistantship programme is reciprocal, so UCLM receives, finances and tends to a series of English-speaking assistants coming from the aforementioned countries and who help to support the “Learn English at Your Campus” Programme.

A programme carrying its own weight which our University also participates in is that of Erasmus Mundus, aimed at strengthening European cooperation and international links in higher learning, financing high-quality European master’s degrees, which enable university students and teachers from all over the world to do post-graduate studies at European universities and which at the same time promote the mobility of European university students and teachers towards third countries.

Our University is currently present at different International Education Forums such as: the EUA (European University Association); EAIE (European Association for International Education); the Columbus University Network; the AUIP (Latin American University Post-graduate Association); the Compostela Universities Group; and the Tordesillas Universities Group.

Beginning in 2006, UCLM has started up some Studies Abroad programmes with USA Universities. The courses developed at UCLM are part of their own education offered by the northern American Universities (in Civil Engineering), and aim to prepare students in the analysis and design of Structures through a programme of theory and practice classes in English. After finishing the course, students may carry out internships at companies in the construction field in Spain.
