Almagro is internationally known by its Annual Festival of Classical Theatre that it is celebrated in July. It can be said that the whole town is a theatre, because there are many buildings, squares, streets, corners,… where it is played a performance. Some of the most important celebratory spaces in all of baroque architecture are the “Corrales de Comedias,” or, structures in which theatrical exhibitions are performed. The Corral de Comedia in Almagro was built in 1628. In 1954, it was rediscovered and later purchased for use by the city council. Since then, it has undergone a number of diverse restorations that continue to this day. The Corral de Comedias in Almagro is thus the only corral of its type to survive until the present era. Nevertheless, there are numerous others building or places where to enjoy a theatre performance such as the Hospital San Juan, the Patio de Fucares, The Plaza Mayor (Main Square) San Bartolome church, and much others. It is planned an Open-air Theatre performance for the assistant of this School. |

Planned for the day after finishing the academic activies and included in the school program. Toledo, a small city found on a Castilian hilltop overlooking the Rio Tajo (River Tagus), was once the Spanish capital under the Visigoths (567 to 711) and again when Felipe II moved the Court of Spain to Madrid (1085 to 1561). Locals often refer to Toledo as 'La Ciudad Imperial' (The Imperial City). It is also Known as the “city of the three cultures”, because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived together there for centuries, behind its walls Toledo preserves an artistic and cultural legacy in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques and synagogues. This great diversity of artistic styles makes the old quarter of the capital of La Mancha a real open-air museum, which has led to it being declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO. |

Almagro, midway between Andalusia and Madrid, was a prominent, prosperous town of 16th-century Spain, populated by nobility and renowned for its celebrated theater -- a theater recalled to life every July in a three week festival of classic comedy and drama. A typically Manchegan countryside of ruddy red earth, grapevines, olive trees and wheat fields greeted our journey to Almagro. But once we cross the broad avenue circling Almagro (where medieval walls once stood), we can find ourselves in a perfectly preserved 16th-century town, its streets lined with more than 80 noble homes and palaces graced by imposing coats of arms, and centering on a splendid square. The city’s beauty, rich history, the attraction of the Corral de Comedias, the National Museum of Theater, and the magnificent Palace de loss Mistrals make Almagro a valuable and worthwhile destination at any time of the year. Almagro is sometimes called the Miracle of La Mancha. During our visit we will taste the different wines of the region and of course, with “TAPAS”. |
