Each session lasts for 90 minutes and is structured into three parts:
I . Warm-up.
II . Main part.
III. Return to normal.
Each session involves activities related to different health aspects (cardiovascular resistance, muscle strength and flexibility) at an average intensity of 3.13 MET (5.66-1.61 MET), as measured with RT3 triaxial accelerometers.
The children increased their level of physical activity on a weekly basis as follows:
- 3 hours of cardiovascular resistance work : the ability to perform a dynamic exercise involving the principal muscle groups at moderate or high intensity for prolonged periods of time.
- 45 minutes of muscle work: the ability of a muscle group to perform repeated contractions for a period of time sufficient to produce muscle fatigue or to maintain a degree of voluntary contraction statically for a prolonged period of time.
- 45 minutes of flexibility work: the ability to move a joint across the full range of movement. This includes joint mobility and muscular elongation.
These activities are based on games with alternative equipment such as parachutes, pogo sticks, "indiacas" (a shuttlecock-type object consisting of a flattened ball with feathers attached), frisbees, hop balls, etc., pre-sport games, dances and minigames. The activities took place at the schools' sporting facilities outside of school hours.
