THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR IN CASTILLA-LA MANCHA, 70th YEARS LATER

During this year 2006, two important commemorations are going to agree in the time. On the one hand, the 70 anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War and, on the other hand, the 75 of the proclamation of II Republic. With this reason the History´s department (Area of Contemporary History) of Castilla-La Mancha´s University has decided to hold a scientific meeting in which studious and investigating they can make different contributions as well as to debate on the proposed subjects.

The organization of the Congress is going to center the debate in the Civil War but it is impossible to separate the war, on the one hand, by its deeper roots, than they go much more there of II Republic and, on the other hand, of its immediate consequences, in the years of the postwar period, the well-known like "first franquismo". Therefore, it is tried to give capacity to the investigations centered not solely in the period between 1936 and 1939 but to which they are entered in previous periods (II Republic, Primo de Rivera´s dictadorship, Restoration or century XIX) in search of the keys to include/understand the conflict and to the immediately later ones (repression, agrarian economic crisis, contrarreforma...).

On the other hand, the Congress is going away to vertebrar around four thematic sessions with possible amplest thematic and methodologic the criterion that it allows to approach from the sources, the methodology and the state of the question to subjects eminently politicians, the military, economic, social and cultural as much of the Civil War as of the periods immediate (II Republic) and later (First franquismo). On the other hand, the Congress wants to be centered in the regional scope. In this year they are going away to celebrate other events with an ampler geographic amplitude, more general and there will be opportunity to debate and to make contributions there. This option does not mean to look at the war out of context, but to center the works in a zone makes specific and either we are not going to forget the international, national and regional context of that historical event. Therefore in each one of the tables communications referred to other territorial scopes as long as they approach a compared history, mainly with bordering provinces and regions will be admitted.

And, finally, it is wanted to pay a preferred attention to the recovery of the historical memory like a way that allows to a better knowledge of the most recent past us, indeed that in which we can use a as valuable mechanism as the oral sources and approach a necessary subject, the necessity to construct to archives of oral sources and museums trims in this thematic one. Connected to this reality, the Congress is going to project visits to monuments and jails (like in Almadén) related to the subject.
