RESUMEN:

El presente artículo tiene por objetivo poner de manifiesto la relevancia de la guerra de Sucesión y su incidencia en la evolución de la población, poniendo en valor el estudio de caso sobre San Clemente, una villa ubicada en La Mancha y que desempeñó un papel principal en el transcurso del conflicto bélico. Una villa que, al ostentar la sede del Corregimiento, se convierte en sede de la representación real y, por tanto, en el lugar desde el que se ponen en práctica las disposiciones de la Corte. Por otro lado, el estudio de la población en las sociedades preestadísticas supone un buen indicador para discernir el grado de desarrollo de las poblaciones a lo largo del Antiguo Régimen.

ABSTRACT:

This article is aimed at showing the importance of the War of Spanish Succession and its effects on the development of the population, focusing on San Clemente, a town located in La Mancha which played an important role in the course of this military conflict. Since San Clemente was the head of one the country subdivisions (Corregimiento), it became the headquarters that represented the Crown and, therefore, the place from which the Court regulations were applied. Moreover, the study of the population during the pre-statistical period constitutes a good indicator to distinguish the degree of population development during the Ancien Regime.
