EDWARD MANUEL NEWMAN (1870-1953)

Viajero, escritor y fotógrafo. Así se podría resumir la vida y la trayectoria profesional de Newman. Además del libro sobre España, escribió guías de viaje de otros países como Alemania, Rusia, Egipto, Tierra Santa, Francia, Italia, Inglaterra y Escocia. En 1930, cuando apareció Seeing Spain and Morocco , la casa editorial regaló un ejemplar a la Hispanic, pero hay que señalar que su trabajo había entrado por vez primera en la Institución diez años antes, cuando se compró un considerable número de imágenes a la agencia Publisher Photo Service, con la que estaba vinculado.

El libro sobre España y Marruecos incluye una pequeña reflexión sobre la ciudad de Toledo:

"Toledo is an experience of rare delight for one who is not in a hurry; it is only another Spanish city to one who glances here and there and seems anxious to be on his way.

It is my suggestion, therefore, that we postpone the pleasures of Madrid, and not only visit Toledo but reside under its hospitable roof for a time and form and adequate impression of it from leisurely observation." (pág. 184)
